Our unique research connects puppy mills and commercial dog breeders across the country to the pet stores and online websites they sell through.

Through Freedom of Information Act requests, our team forensically audits government health records and inspection records and makes that information public in order to provide transparency for the consumer. Below you will find a list of all of the research that we have done into some of the nation’s most notorious businesses. Everything that we do can be independently verified through obtaining FOIA requests from governmental agencies across the country. To make it easy, our research is organized by business designation type, state and business name. 

The research we do can be very costly but it has proven to be the most effective tool advocates have in order to create change in their communities. To date we have connected more than 65% of the nation’s puppy-selling stores to the puppy mills and commercial dog breeders they buy from. 

Please note: We are adding stores and breeding connections as we obtain the data, this is not the full list of stores or businesses that sell puppies in the Texas! This is a very time consuming and expensive research project that our small team is taking on!

Support Our Nonprofit

Bailing Out Benji is a small nonprofit that started in Ames, Iowa and now has volunteer teams all over the country who are dedicated to raising awareness about the puppy mill industry.

Volunteers from Bailing Out Benji devote their free time to researching puppy mills to create puppy mill maps for the worst states, as well as raise awareness about notorious pet stores and breeding operations with huge violations. This includes obtaining CVI data (Certificates of Veterinary Inspections) and making those reports public. 

NOTE:

-Before an animal is transported out of state, a veterinarian, accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), must examine the animal for signs of “infectious, contagious or communicable disease” and, if no disease is found, sign the certificate for approval to transport.

To make this easier, we will be breaking our research down alphabetically by each pet store and connecting them to the various puppy mills they use. All of this information has come from the Department of Agriculture and the USDA.

All of the breeders listed as associated with the pet stores sold puppies or kittens to them in the years 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019.

    14. Rebecca Eiler, Creekside Kennel. Oberlin, Kansas- 357 adult breeding dogs and 206 puppies on the premises. Eiler was named one of the worst puppy mills in the country because of recent state violations including: had a trough of dog feces spilling above ground; housing in disrepair; and dirty conditions at state inspections. 
    15. Scott Wheatcraft and Gaynetta Snyder, Precious paws. Browning, Missouri- 125 adult breeding dogs and 78 puppies.
    16. Brian Mohrfield, Select Puppies AKA Lucky Puppies Co. West Point, Iowa- 441 puppies. . Also owns Choice Puppies (another broker) out of Goodman, Missouri. Until late 2016, the Hunte Corporation was one of the largest puppy brokers in the entire country. It was said to have sold over 100,000 puppies to pet stores each year.
    17. Tiffanie Kurz, Tiffanie’s LLC. Frankford,  Missouri – Broker with 41 puppies on their property at the time of last inspection. Violations include keeping puppies in kennels that are too small. This broker was also named one of the worst puppy mills in the country.

Dog Alley in Canton, Texas is home to hundreds of unregulated puppy mills. These puppy mills are from within Texas, and from surrounding states. At this time, there is very little oversight on what is happening here. To view more information, click here.

  1. Arlene and Arlyn Swartzentruber, Country View Kennel. Hughesville, Missouri- 16 adult breeding dogs. This facility cancelled their USDA license after federal violations that included: dark green material coating water bowls; dogs with visible fleas crawling on fur. Swartzentruber still holds a state license.
  2. Summer Bray and Baylie Bray. Broken Bow, Oklahoma- 70 adult breeding dogs and 15 puppies. 
  3. Cindy Jensen and Richard Jensen. Neodesha, Kansas- 303 adult breeding dogs and 87 puppies. 
  4. Christy Doogs, Touch O’ Country Kennel. Sedalia, Missouri- this facility is a very regular supplier to Dog Alley.
  5. DeAnna Barnes. Idabel, Oklahoma- not USDA Licensed. 
  6. Deanna Dennis. Soper, Oklahoma- not USDA licensed. 
  7. Marsha Cox, Doggie Door AKA Mar-Don Kennel. Chillicothe, Missouri- This facility cancelled her USDA license after being named one of the worst puppy mills in the country in 2013. Cox changed her kennel name and is now state licensed.
  8. Jay Blackburn and Julie Snidow, Attitudes Kennel. Galt, Missouri- 179 adult breeding dogs and 93 puppies.
  9. Jessica Holder. Soper, Oklahoma- is not USDA licensed.

  11. Judy Koehn, Bow-Wow Mound. Burns, Kansas-249 adult breeding dogs and 102 puppies. This facility has been named one of the worst puppy mills in the country in 2016 and 2017.
  12. Kandy Hale, Kandy’s Puppies. Milan, Missouri- This facility had their USDA licensed revoked after Vincent Losacco was facing charges for his New Jersey pet store that he bred puppies in Missouri for. Over 450 dogs were auctioned off in 2016, yet the facility still remains state licensed.

  14. Kathleen Jones. Fort Towson, Oklahoma- not licensed by the USDA.

  29. Rufus Byler and Lisa Byler, R&L Kennel. Chetopa, Kansas- This is a newly licensed USDA facility and has no public inspections yet. However, the Byler family appears to have taken over the breeding facility of Rudy P Yoder who had 66 adult breeding dogs at the time of last inspection. 
  30. Shelli Kershner, Walnut Creek Kennel. Rush, Center Kansas- 115 adult breeding dogs (down from 201 adults) with 43 puppies on the property. Kershner has a long history of violations including: missing inspections, failure to provide adequate veterinary care, failure to provide safe housing for dogs, dogs with eyes crusted shut, dogs with excessively long toenails, and dogs with dental disease. Kershner was given an Official Warning from the USDA and was named one of the worst puppy mills in the country.
