3.6(a)(2)(x) (Non-Critical) – Primary enclosures.
Inspectors observed the feet of three nursing puppies falling between openings in the raised flooring they are housed on. In one enclosure, a female Aussiedoodle (SA2) had 10 puppies with the feet of two puppies observed falling through the flooring. In a second enclosure, a female Shih Tzu (K6) had 5 puppies and 1 puppy was observed with feet falling through. Openings in flooring large enough to allow a dog’s foot to pass through could cause injury to the animal and affect its ability to move around in a normal manner. Primary enclosures must have floors that are constructed in a manner that protects the dogs’ feet and legs from injury, and that, if of mesh or slatted construction, do not allow the dogs’ feet to pass through any openings in the floor. The licensee must alter the flooring in a manner that protects the animals from injury and eliminates the ability of their feet to pass through any openings. The licensee must ensure the enclosure flooring is safe for the dogs at all times. To be corrected by: May17, 2023 This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee.
