2.75(a)(2) (Non-Critical) – Records: Dealers and exhibitors.
The list of adult dogs was available but is not recorded on APHIS 7005. APHIS 7005 is required to be used to record the acquisition of dogs on hand. Ensure that the list of adults is maintained on APHIS 7005. Correct by October 16, 2021.

3.1(e) (Non-Critical) – Housing facilities, general.
An open bag of food and open bag of bedding by the golden retriever’s area are stored on a dirt floor. Open food and bedding stored on dirt floors increase the risk of contamination/spoiling for the food and bedding. Open food and bedding must be stored in sealed containers with lids to protect them from spoilage and contamination. Correct by October 4, 2021.

3.11(a) (Non-Critical) – Cleaning, sanitization, housekeeping, and pest control.
There were excessive flies in the golden retriever whelping box and on the walls next to the golden retriever puppies. Flies increase the risk of contamination to animals and can spread disease. Ensure that a safe and effective program is in place to control flies in areas where dogs are housed. Correct by October 7, 2021. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with facility representatives. End Section

2.40(b)(2) (Direct) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
The facility had one puppy death in a litter yesterday and another puppy was observed by the facility to not be interested in suckling but has been taking some milk replacer. The licensee was concerned this puppy’s problems might be the same as the one that died but the attending veterinarian had not been contacted. The puppy was observed to have moist gums but when compared with littermates’ interest in suckling the dam, it was seen to be uninterested. Lack of communication with the attending veterinarian on the health of this puppy might cause it to be in discomfort or have its condition worsen. If an animal is unwell and the program of veterinary care does not instruct care for a condition, the facility must contact the attending veterinarian to have the animals evaluated and follow the attending veterinarian’s treatment plan. ***Correct by the end of 4/20/2023. NOTE: The inspection was paused and the licensee contacted the attending veterinarian who plans to visit and observe the litter today. The facility has pyrantel stored and that has been used that expired 5/2021. Expired medications might not work to prevent/treat conditions or might make animals sick. Ensure that expired medications are not used for animals in the facility. ***Correct by 4/20/2023.

2.75(a)(2) (Non-Critical [REPEAT]) – Records: Dealers and exhibitors.
The facility had records for their dogs on hand, however APHIS 7005 had not been updated with 3 dogs’ information. APHIS 7005 is required to be maintained up to date of dogs on hand and can be important for animal health tracing. Ensure that APHIS 7005 is kept up to date with each dogs’ information. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n

The indoor areas of the kennel were clean, however the outdoor part of three enclosures had soiled waste/excreta in areas that dogs could not really walk around. Daily waste removal from the dogs’ outdoor area of the enclosure helps provide for the dogs’ comfort and health. Excreta and food waste must be removed daily from primary enclosures and often enough to keep dogs from contacting the waste. ***Correct by 1/25/2024.
