3.1(c)(3) (Non-Critical) – Housing facilities, general.
Where enclosure panels meet the floor there is excessive soiled material stuck between the panel and floor. The dogs can contact some of this soiled material. Excessively soiled material can cause health hazards and create areas for pests (flies) to nest in. Ensure that all areas that dogs can contact are maintained clean and sanitized at least once every 2 weeks or more often in order to prevent build-up of soiled material. ***Correct by 2/17/2023.

3.3(a) (Critical) – Sheltered housing facilities.
The licensee reported that a week ago stove vents had been forgotten to get closed before going in for the night. The licensee said a thermometer that records the daily high temperature in the building was observed to have recorded 146 degrees F overnight and was 65 degrees F in the morning when first entering and 26 puppies were found dead the same morning. Excessive heat can cause harm to animals. The sheltered portion of the facility where dogs are housed must be maintained in a way that protects dogs from temperature extremes and cannot be more than 85 degrees F for more than 4 hours. ***Correction: The facility has recognized the error that caused this noncompliance and described corrective actions already in place to prevent it from happening again. 3.1(b) (Non-Critical) – Housing facilities, general.
Underneath some of the indoor runs (areas the animals cannot contact) old shavings material has built-up around stored items. The stored items would make it difficult to routinely clean out the shavings to prevent the build-up. Animal areas inside of the facility must be kept neat and free of clutter to aid in routine cleaning of the facility. Ensure to not store items in this area and to aid in cleaning out the old shavings under the runs. ****Correct by July 25, 2023. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n

2.40(b)(3) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
Male shih-tzu #39’s right eye had wet hair around it with some minor crusted hair. The clear surface was slightly hazy with some redness on the upper part of it and a brown round area in the upper part of the dark part of the eye (pupil). These are signs of an active eye problem. This eye condition was pointed out to the licensee. Eye problems can cause discomfort and worsen over time if not treated. Ensure that this dog’s eye is seen by the attending veterinarian (AV) and follow the AV’s treatment plan. Ensure that a routine of daily observation of all animals is completed so that there can be prompt and frequent communication on animal health problems with the AV. ***Correct by 11/11/2023.

3.8 (Non-Critical) – Exercise for dogs.
The facility has a written plan of exercise, however it has not been approved by the new attending veterinarian for the facility. Having an exercise plan approved by the attending veterinarian helps ensure dogs have enough space and opportunity for exercise. Ensure to obtain the attending veterinarian’s approval on the written exercise plan. ***Correct by 11/18/2023.

3.13(a)(4) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
Female teddy bear #31 had areas of matted hair on the sides of her legs. Matted hair can cause discomfort and skin problems. Ensure this dog’s hair coat is trimmed and that a regular routine of preventive care such as hair coat care is kept in place to prevent matted hair coats. ***Correct by 11/11/2023.
