An approximately 1.5 year old male Dalmation (microchip ID 991003002177467) was tethered in its kennel. Tethering a dog for an extended period of time can be uncomfortable and stressful for that dog. In addition, it can result in injury to the dog. Tethering of dogs for use as a primary enclosure must be discontinued. Correct starting on 7/23/24.

2.40(b)(2) (Direct) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
There was a shitzu female “Ellie” (Brown/white) that had multiple wounds on both back legs in the flank area. The dog was in a fight with another female approximately 2 days prior in the run yard. The haircoat was hard to the touch (crusty texture) due to tissue fluids from the wounds beneath it seaping. There were several areas beneath the haircoat that showed a break in the skin where tooth marks were present. While they didnt appear deep, there was a green puss that came out of the wounds in multiple areas and the smell was very pungent and smelled of infection. The legs did appear painful upon examination as the dog pulled away several times. The legs appeared swollen/red and warm to the touch. While the licensee did seperate the dog and washed down the area after the fight, there was no further checking in the following days or medical care provided. The licensee did not think the wounds were serious at the time and did not seek veterinary care. The lack of timely veterinary care can cause a treatable condition to become chronic or infected and cause unnecessary pain and discomfort to the regulated animal. The licensee must provide appropriate methods to prevent, control, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries, and the availability of emergency, weekend, and holiday care;. To be corrected by: The dog was taken to the attending veterinarian during the inspection This inspection and exit interview were conducted with facility representative. n
