2.40(b)(2) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
Prissy (m/c# 900008500093806) a female Bichon Frise had many small matts or clumps of hair on her body, face and feet. The back and sides have areas of missing or very thin hair. The owner did not know the cause of this. Thinning hair can indicate an underlying illness. Matted hair can twist and tighten around the skin and cause discomfort to the dog. It does not provide an insulative layer to the dog. The owner shall have this dog evaluated by a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment. The owner must groom the dog to remove the matted hair and maintain it. Rocky Top’s Jenna, a female Yorkshire Terrier ( last 4 digits of m/c: 7720) had an area of hair loss around both her eyes. The skin appeared moist in this area and the dog appeared to have some discomfort when in a brighter light. The owner had not noticed this condition. The dog must be evaluated by a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment. Records of both dogs’ evaluation and of each treatment and the results must be maintained and available to APHIS officials. Each dealer or exhibitor shall establish and maintain programs of adequate veterinary care that include the use of appropriate methods to prevent, control, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries, and the availability of emergency, weekend, and holiday care. To be corrected by 4 August 2023.

2.50(a)(2) (Non-Critical) – Time and method of identification.
In the building is a litter of three 7 week old puppies who have no identification on them. Identification is required in order to ensure that each animal’s identity can be known with certainty and to facilitate record keeping requirements for inventory, disposition, transport, and healthcare documentation. Live puppies or kittens, less than 16 weeks of age, shall be identified. The owner must identify all live regulated animals and assure that records are kept at all times. Correction date: 3 August 2023

3.10(c) (Non-Critical) – Watering
In the outdoor enclosure is a water bowl that has a dark coating of grime on the interior surface. The water is also muddy from the dogs walking in it. The grime may be a contaminant of the water and the mud in the water means that it is no longer potable. Water receptacles must be kept clean and sanitized in accordance with § 3.11(b). The owner must clean and sanitize the water bowls and maintain clean water bowls for all dogs. To be corrected from this day forward

3.11(a) (Non-Critical) – Cleaning, sanitization, housekeeping, and pest control.
In many of the enclosures on the outside part of the building, there is an excessive amount of feces. The owner hosed off the washdowns under the wire floor, but had not removed the feces from the suspended wire floor for several days. Some of the feces has white areas, indicating that they are dry and have been there for more than a day. The amount of feces makes it difficult for the enclosed dogs to avoid stepping in it and becoming soiled. There is a large amount of hair and other debris on the underside of the wire floors. Excreta and food waste must be removed from primary enclosures daily, and from under primary enclosures as often as necessary to prevent an excessive accumulation of feces and food waste, to prevent soiling of the dogs contained in the primary enclosures, and to reduce disease hazards, insects, pests and odors. The owner must removed fecal and food waste daily. There are 2 outdoor enclosures with Corgis in them. In one enclosure there is a large amount of gravel in the dog shelters that covers the raised end at the bottom of the opening and spreads into the shelter floor. The gravel makes it difficult to clean and sanitize the shelter. The owner must remove the gravel and clean the shelters and sanitize them every 2 weeks, as required. To be corrected from this day forward Records were reviewed on 2 August 2023. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n

2.40(b)(2) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
Three dogs had excessively matted hair and one dog had an excessive amount of hard material on the molars. *Lani (id# 7800002127, DOB 2/23/17) a small white female dog, has an excessive amount of hard brown and gray material on most of her teeth. The molars are entirely coated with this material. Poor dental health can make it difficult to chew food and could cause pain and discomfort to the dog, as well as lead to further health issues. The licensee must have this dog evaluated by a licensed veterinarian to provide appropriate treatment. These medical records must be available for APHIS inspection. *Fred (id#9944, DOB 3/31/22), a male red Miniature Poodle, has excessively matted and twisted hair on his face, head, body, legs and feet. *Sadie (id#7566, DOB 5/17/16) a black female Poodle, has excessively matted and twisted hair on her body, legs, feet, head and face. The toenails are also excessively long and are curling under. The molars have an excessive amount of hard, brown and gray material coating on them. Failure to trim nails can lead to overgrowth which can cause pain, injury, and/or gait abnormalities. Poor dental health could cause pain and discomfort to the dog, as well as lead to further health issues. The licensee must have this dog evaluated by a licensed veterinarian to provide appropriate treatment for the dental issue. These medical records must be available for APHIS inspection. *Rainbow Fluffy (id#930819, DOB 4/15/22) a white Bichon mix had excessively matted and twisted hair on her face, head, body, legs and feet. Matted hair can result in skin problems, can be painful, and can compromise the hair’s ability to provide protection from the heat or cold. The licensee must remove the matted hair from these animals and must establish an effective program of haircoat maintenance. Toenails must be trimmed and maintained to appropriate lengths to prevent pain, injury or gait abnormalities. Correction date: 16 March 2024

3.13(a)(4) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The Program of Veterinary Care does not include plans for preventative care and treatment to ensure healthy and unmatted hair coats, properly trimmed nails, and clean and healthy eyes, ears, skin, and teeth. The written Program of Veterinary care must address a preventative care and treatment to ensure healthy and unmatted hair coats, properly trimmed nails, and clean and healthy eyes, ears, skin, and teeth. These plans are important to maintain the health and well being of the dogs and must be addressed in the in the written program of veterinary care that is signed by the attending veterinarian. The licensee must work with the attending veterinarian to design a preventative program for the health and well being of the dogs. Correction date: 16 March 2024 This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n
