2.50(a)(1) (Non-Critical) – Time and method of identification.
At this facility, dogs are identified with a metal tag and collar. At the time of inspection 5 dogs–3 Pomeranians, an Irish Setter, and a German Short-haired pointer, were not wearing their collar and were not otherwise identified. Correct identification allows for tracking the movement of dogs and facilitates the inspection process by enabling dogs’ identity to be known. The licensee must identify all live dogs on the premises as defined in section 2.50. To be corrected by 13 August 2021.
3.10(a) (Direct) – Watering
Dogs are kept in large outdoor enclosures and provided 5 gallon buckets filled with water. In one enclosure containing 2 dogs, the bucket had algae growth and the water was brown and murky and you could not see the bottom of the bucket. In another enclosure containing 5 dogs, the water bucket had algae growth along the sides and bottom. No other water was provided to these dogs. Dirty water can be unhealthy for dogs and cause illness. Clean, potable water must be continuously provided to dogs. Correct immediately by providing clean, potable water on a continuous basis, including sanitizing water buckets a minimum of every 2 weeks and cleaning more frequently as needed to ensure potability. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee. End Section

3.13(a) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The written program of veterinary care does not address all of the requirements for adequate veterinary care of dogs. There is no frequency listed for a complete physical exam of each dog. There is no written plan to sample and test animals for fleas, heartworms, intestinal worms, coccidia, or giardia. There is no written plan for preventative care to maintain healthy haircoats, trimmed nails, clean eyes, ears, skin, and teeth. A thorough written program of veterinary care is essential to ensuring the health and welfare of dogs. Correct by 12/31/22 by ensuring that the written program of veterinary care meets the requirements set forth in the regulations. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee. n

2.40(b)(3) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
Charlie (#201), an adult male Irish Setter, had fur matting and a moist, black discharge in and around his left ear. The licensee stated that they had been out of town until the day prior and they had not noticed it since returning and their caretaker had not mentioned it. Discharge from the ear can indicate an ear infection and be painful. Daily observation of all animals must be done to assess their health and well-being so that health concerns can be communicated to the veterinarian in a timely manner. Correct by observing all animals daily, communicating any concerns to the veterinarian, and providing prompt treatment when warranted from 5/1//24 forward.
3.13(a)(1) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The attending veterinarian has not visited the premises and performed a hands-on exam of every dog since 2/23/23. The program of vet care states that visits will occur annually and hands-on exams will occur at the annual visit. The licensee had records from visits from the last 2-3 years but admitted that the vet had not been out this year. Regularly scheduled visits to the premise and complete physical exams every 12 months are crucial to assessing the adequacy of vet care and animal health. Correct by scheduling a site visit by the attending veterinarian with hands-on exams of all adults dogs by 5/31/24. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee. n
