2.50(a)(1) (Non-Critical) – Time and method of identification.
The facility has names and identification numbers assigned to each adult dog, however the dogs are not wearing official identification. The facility describes tags as the preferred method of assigning identification to each animal. Lack of ID makes tracking animals for husbandry and health needs difficult. Ensure that each dog is wearing its official identification number as required such as with a collar made of material generally considered acceptable to pet owners as a means of identifying their pet dogs. ***Correct by 6/20/2023.

2.75(a)(1) (Non-Critical) – Records: Dealers and exhibitors.
The Record of Dogs on Hand (APHIS 7005) didn’t have an address of where 4 adult dogs came from. It is important to maintain accurate records of where dogs come from in case health tracing needs to be done. Ensure to contact the seller and obtain the lacking information to update records and maintain accurate records of acquisition for adult dogs on hand. ***Correct by 5/20/2023.

2.75(a)(2) (Non-Critical) – Records: Dealers and exhibitors.
APHIS form 7006 (Record of Disposition) is not being used for the sales of puppies. While records of sales were observed to have been made, APHIS 7006 is a required form for all dog sales/transfers from a licensed kennel. Ensure that all sales/transfers are being recorded and maintained on APHIS 7006 and available for inspection. ***Correct by 5/9/2023.

3.1(e) (Non-Critical) – Housing facilities, general.
Some bags of food and bedding are being stored in a room that houses weaned puppies. Food and bedding stored in the same room as animals increases the risk of contaminating the food/bedding. Only food and bedding that is in use may be in animal areas and opened bags must be kept in leakproof containers with tightly fitting lids. Ensure that food and bedding is stored in a separate space that protects it from contamination risk. ***Correct by 5/15/2023. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n

2.40(b)(2) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
Two expired medications were in storage and had been used since expiration date; Oxytocin expired May 2022 and Safeguard expired April 2023. Expired medications might not work as intended or might not treat/prevent the conditions which they are made for. Ensure to routinely check stored medications and properly discard of them so that they cannot be used in animals. ***Correct by 8/1/2023.

2.50(a)(1) (Non-Critical [REPEAT]) – Time and method of identification.
The facility has names and identification numbers assigned to each adult dog, however the dogs are not wearing official identification. The licensee said tags have been ordered but they haven’t received the order yet. Lack of ID makes it difficult to track animals on husbandry and health records. Ensure that each dog is wearing its official identification number as required such as with a collar made of material generally considered acceptable to pet owners as a means of identifying their pet dogs.

3.13(a)(4) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
Three female dogs (black and white Shih Tzu, no id; a red Shih Tzu named Red Doll on tag, and a Maltese named Red Flash on the tag) were seen to have areas of matted hair. The program of veterinary care says dogs should be clipped every four months or more often to prevent matted hair. The licensee said that the caretaker was clipping some dogs but the clippers stopped working. Ensure that steps are taken so that these three dogs can be clipped and to ensure that other dogs do not get matted hair coats. ***Correct by 8/16/2023. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. n

3.8 (Non-Critical) – Exercise for dogs.
The facility has adequate space and/or dogs housed in compatible groups, however a written Exercise Plan for Dogs that has been approved by the attending veterinarian was not available at the time of inspection. Having a written plan of exercise approved by the attending veterinarian helps ensure dogs have adequate opportunity for exercise. Ensure to maintain a written exercise plan for dogs that has been approved by the attending veterinarian. Correct by February 29, 2024.
