2.40(b)(3) (Direct) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
An adult female maltese named “Annie” (#337, DOB 7/3/19), randomly pulled for examination, had a loose premolar on the upper right side of its mouth. The gumline had receded considerably for this tooth and the root was exposed. In addition, there was a moderate amount of tartar buildup on both sides of its mouth. The licensee had not observed this prior to inspection. Dental issues can be painful and can lead to infection which can become systemic. Daily observation must be done for all animals to assess their health and well-being and a mechanism of direct and frequent communication is required so that timely and accurate information on problems of animal health, behavior, and well-being is conveyed to the attending veterinarian. The attending veterinarian must be contacted and the dog must be treated as per his/her instructions. Correct by 5/20/26 or prior to your next scheduled relicense inspection, whichever comes first. This is a 1st Re-License Inspection for a Class “A” license. The inspection and exit briefing were conducted with the applicant. Correct the direct by the date listed above or prior to the next scheduled relicense inspection, whichever comes first. All items must be in compliance within 2 more inspections or by 7/17/26 or the applicant will forfeit the license fee and must wait 6 months to reapply. Please contact your inspector to schedule your next Re-License Inspection. An unannounced inspection to reinspect the direct may be conducted prior to your next licensing inspection. Regulated activity can continue under your existing USDA license until it expires. Conducting regulated activity without a valid USDA license is a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. End of report. n
