3.13(a)(3) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The facility is not following the Program of Vet Care (PVC) for preventative care. The PVC prescribes for adult dogs to receive the combination distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus vaccine yearly. This vaccine was last given in September 2024, and five adult dogs are overdue for this vaccine. The facility is also overdue on heartworm and fecal testing. The PVC prescribes for these tests to be performed on at least 10% of the kennel count and were last performed in November 2024. Routine testing for parasites (via fecal and heartworm testing) and vaccines for contagious and/or deadly diseases of dogs is required under the Animal Welfare Act. These preventative care measures must be done in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian and help to ensure the health and well-being of the dogs. Correct by following the PVC for vaccinations, and sampling and treatment of parasites. Correct by: January 15, 2026. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the facility representatives. n
