3.1(c)(2) (Non-Critical) – Housing facilities, general.
The facility has 4 cage carpets that are being used as whelping mats for the dogs that are excessively worn and have frayed edges. One whelping divider had excessive chew damage along the entire top edge. There are 4 outdoor runs that have chew damage present on the polyurethane steps. Chew damage in these areas can not be properly cleaned and sanitized and can cause sharp edges that can injure the dogs. Cage carpets with frayed edges can be ingested by the dogs or can cause entrapment of a limb. Correct by ensuring that all surfaces of the housing facility including houses, dens, and other furniture type fixtures and objects within the facility that can not be readily cleaned and sanitized are repaired or replaced when worn or soiled.
3.8 (Non-Critical) – Exercise for dogs.
The facility does not have a written and approved exercise plan that is being followed. Failure to document and follow a written and veterinarian approved exercise plan does not allow for APHIS officials to determine if an appropriate protocol has been followed. Correct by ensuring that a written and veterinarian approved exercise plan is documented and followed.
3.13(a)(3) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The facility has not conducted fecal testing or heartworm testing on any of the dogs. Failure to provide sampling and treatment of parasites and other pests in the dogs can lead to a delay in detection and treatment. Correct by ensuring that sampling and treatment of parasites and other pests in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian is documented and followed. This is a 1st Re-License Inspection for a Class “A” license. The inspection and exit briefing were conducted with the applicant. All items must be in compliance within 2 more inspections or by April 15, 2023 or the applicant will forfeit the license fee and must wait 6 months to reapply. Please contact your inspector to schedule your next Re-License Inspection. Regulated activity can continue under your existing USDA license until it expires. 2.75(a)(1) (Non-Critical) – Records: Dealers and exhibitors.
The Record of Dogs and Cats on Hand (APHIS form 7005) does not correctly disclose all of the dogs present at the facility. The facility currently has 26 adult dogs with 30 adult dogs listed on the APHIS form 7005. Inaccurate or incomplete records do not allow for APHIS officials to perform a complete inspection of the facility and does not facilitate proper tracking of animals. Correct by ensuring that the records are fully and correctly disclosed for all dogs that are purchased or otherwise acquired, owned, held, or otherwise in his or her possession or under his or her control. Correct by 27-May-2024.
3.13(a)(2) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The facility has not had physical examinations performed on all dogs by the attending veterinarian in the past 12 months. 14 adult dogs at the facility have not had physical exams performed annually as required. Failure to have each dog examined at least once a year can result in delay of treatment and diagnosis for disease, illness, or injury. Correct by ensuring that a complete physical examination from head to tail of each dog by the attending veterinarian is conducted not less than once every 12 months. Correct by 27-May-2024.
3.13(a)(3) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
The facility has not been vaccinating or sampling for parasites and other pests in a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian. Heartworm and fecal testing have not been conducted in the last year in accordance with the program of veterinary care. Additionally, the rabies vaccination has also not been administered to the dogs. Failure to vaccinate dogs for deadly and contagious diseases and to conduct sampling and treatment for parasites and other pests in accordance with the attending veterinarians approved schedule can expose the animals to increased disease risk and can delay treatment. The licensee must ensure that vaccinations for contagious and/or deadly diseases of dogs (including rabies, parvovirus, and distemper) and sampling and treatment of parasites and other pests (including fleas, worms, coccidia, giardia, and heartworm) in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian are followed. Correct by 27-May-2024. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the Facility Representative. n

Additionally, the rabies vaccination has not been administered to the dogs. Failure to vaccinate dogs for deadly and contagious diseases and to conduct sampling and treatment for parasites and other pests in accordance with the attending veterinarians approved schedule can expose the animals to increased disease risk and can delay treatment.
