2.131(b)(1) (Critical) – Handling of animals.
On November 9, 2024, Toy Poodle Terra, was let out to exercise in the unenclosed front yard of the facility under the licensee’s supervision. The licensee stated that a car entered the driveway that leads to the facility’s front yard when it hit Terra, resulting in her becoming deceased instantaneously from the impact. Letting dogs out to exercise in open areas that exposes them to moving vehicles or equipment poses a risk for injury or death. Dogs should be exercised in confined areas under the supervision of the facility representative. Handling of animals should be done expeditiously and carefully as possible in a manner that does not cause trauma, stress, or unnecessary discomfort.
