2.40(b)(2) (Non-Critical) – Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
-Expired Ponazuril was in storage and had been used in the kennel since expiration of 6/6/2022. Expired medications/dewormers might not be effective. Ensure that all medications are not expired prior to using them per the attending veterinarian’s instructions. -A medication not labeled for dogs (Children’s Acetaminophen) was stored in the kennel and per the licensee had been used occasionally to help dogs that were mildly sick with fevers and after use the dogs got better. The facility did not get instructions or ask the attending veterinarian prior to using this medication with dogs. The use of medications not labeled for dogs without written veterinary instruction might not help the dog’s condition and could hurt the dog if the medication is not the correct type for dogs. Ensure that medications are given only per the attending veterinarian’s instructions/prescription and for conditions which the attending veterinarian has approved. Correct from this day forward. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative. End Section

3.13(a)(3) (Non-Critical) – Veterinary care for dogs.
A schedule of de-worming for adult dogs is in place, however the licensee needs go get more information from the attending veterinarian on the written program of veterinary care: -Frequency and how many dogs to be heartworm tested per year. -Frequency and how many dogs to be fecal tested per year. -Frequency and method (product type, dose) of de-worming for routine de-worming of adult dogs. Heartworm and fecal testing helps ensure that the facility parasite control routine is protecting dogs. Having the routine adult de-worming products used and schedule approved by the attending veterinarian (AV) helps ensure de-worming products are being used correctly. Ensure to contact the AV to get frequency of heartworm and fecal testing and the schedule of adult de-worming approved. ***Correct by 3/18/2024. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee. n
