3.2(d) (Non-Critical) – Indoor housing facilities.
The flooring in the whelping area is not impervious to moisture. The upstairs area of the facility is all indoors and has the whelping enclosures. The floor to that area is particle board and water was observed soaking into the wood across the front of most of the enclosures on the west side. The licensee stated they used Thompson water seal on the floor, but there was no water observed beading up, it was soaked into the wood. The floors of an indoor housing facility must be impervious to moisture to facilitate the required cleaning and sanitization. The licensee must make these surfaces impervious to moisture. This inspection was a site approval inspection. This site is not ready for approval to conduct activity covered under your current Animal Welfare Act License. Conducting regulated activities at a non-approved site is a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. Please contact your inspector to schedule your next new site approval inspection. This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the licensee. n
