The Colorado Bailing Out Benji volunteers are part of a group that has been protesting the pet stores in Colorado Springs for about two years. These wonderful advocates are also working with the Colorado Springs City Council to pass an ordinance that will ban the retail of dogs and cats in pet stores. While CO doesn’t have a large amount of puppy mills (that we know of), it does have a number of pet stores that sell puppies from puppy mills. And many of those puppies come from some of the worst puppy mill states in the nation, including Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma.
A word from Vicki, Colorado Team Leader:
Growing up in Iowa, I “knew” about puppy mills. But once I started following a couple of mill dog rescues on Facebook, as well as the pages of several puppy mill survivors, I learned more than I ever wanted to know about them. I believe the end of puppy mills WILL happen in the foreseeable future! However, the key to that is to educate the general public about the horror of puppy mills. Through the efforts of Bailing Out Benji, and the documentary “Dog By Dog”, that has really gotten the ball rolling. I wanted to help bring a BoB team to Colorado because, for me, furthering the public education is the next logical step. I want to do my part to keep that ball rolling and help it pick up speed, and I feel partnering with Mindi and BoB is the best way to do that. I am honored and proud to the Bailing Out Benji Colorado Team Leader!
